Major Fail! School lunch meats lack standards

Good afternoon everyone!

The safety of our food is questionable (esp. the meat supplied to our children). USA Today reports that McDonald's, Burger King and Jack In The Box all have much higher meat safety standards than the USDA sets for our schools and our kids. Fast food chains test the meat that they buy more often than the government does. USDA buys spent hens (i.e. old chickens) and if they don't go in school lunches, they go to pet food. How crazy is that? Between 1998 & 2007, there were 470 outbreaks of food-borne illnesses in school; SMH those numbers are UNACCEPTABLE!!! With that being said, I encourage all of you who have children to pack your kids lunch b/c our government is slacking. Check out the video below for more info on how our children lunch are graded.

  2. No, unfortunately I haven't. I've heard of it though. I'll definitely try to read it in my downtime. And yeah, that makes me mad as well. It makes no sense that foods that are good for us are unaffordable while foods that are bad for us are cheap. It's a conspiracy I tell you. Nevertheless, it is what it is. Perhaps things will get better soon. We can only hope.
