For many of you, today may be your day of worship. For others, it may be your day of rest. I know from a male perspective, today's the day where we crowd around the big screen and watch football. In my household, we watch futbol, also known as, soccer lol :-). Anyways, regardless of whatever you may be doing today, I urge you to take some time and read this post. Why? you may ask. Well, for one, it applies to you. Secondly, I'm sure you'll find it interesting.
With that being said, I'm sure all of you are familiar with the term 'pollution'. Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into an environment that causes instability, disorder, harm or discomfort to the ecosystem i.e. physical systems or living organisms. In today's society, one of the major forms of pollution is air pollution. Air pollutants cause many health care effects which may range from subtle biochemical and physiological changes to difficulty in breathing, wheezing, coughing and aggravation of existing respiratory and cardiac conditions. These effects can result in increased medication use, increased doctor or emergency room visits, more hospital admissions and premature death. The human health effects of poor air quality are far reaching, but principally affect the body's respiratory system and the cardiovascular system. Individual reactions to air pollutants depend on the type of pollutant a person is exposed to, the degree of exposure, the individual's health status and genetics.
The World Health Organization states that 2.4 million people die each year from causes directly attributable to air pollution, with 1.5 million of these deaths attributable to indoor air pollution. As a result, researchers at the International Center for Diarrhoeal Disease Research are examining a new type of indoor cooking stove that has covered cooking compartments and seeing whether it reduces indoor air pollution.
This is important b/c traditional stoves fueled by coal and other solid fuels is a major contributor of indoor air pollution, which studies have linked to higher risk of TB. Therefore, by examining this new type of stove we can reduce respiratory infections and TB in children. With that being said, what are your thoughts? Do you think this is a good idea? Anyways, feel free to share your thoughts and/or leave any comments. I'd love to hear from you. Well, I hope everyone has a lovely day and I'll ttyl. Take care. Peace, Love, and God Bless. This is 'thedoc' and I'm signing out. 1.
