Have you ever seen a mosquito w/ a cold? I know...me neither

Have you ever wondered if insects get sick? If not, take a sec. and try to imagine a world where an insect such as a mosquito could get sick and suffer from things we, humans, suffer from on a daily basis. For instance, take your common cold... In humans, the common cold generally involves a runny nose, nasal congestion, and sneezing. You may also have a sore throat, cough, headache, or other symptoms. Imagine if a mosquito could feel what we feel, just think...Perhaps it would make them think twice about sucking on our blood, lol.

Anyways, I know a lot of you may be skeptical and say that a mosquito experiencing a cold is just plain old crazy but let me be the first to say that it is indeed possible. With that being said, I present you w/ #1 of the 13 ways in which researchers plan to save our developing world.

Mosquito 'head cold'

Goal: To Investigate the potential of suppressing malaria mosquitoes' ability to locate humans.

How they'll do it: By injecting mosquitoes' w/ a type of fungus that gives them a kind of 'head cold' and inhibits their sense of smell.

Why it matters: About half of the world's population, or about 3.3. billion people, is at risk of malaria, according to Roll Back Malaria Partnership.

Who's Behind it: Penn State University

How cool is that? I think it's a great idea. What are your thoughts? Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this post. Feel free to leave any comments you may have. I'd love to hear from you. Be sure to check in tomorrow as I discuss the potential of preventing HIV via breastmilk. It is sure to be an interesting post. With that being said, I hope everyone had a great day and I'll ttyl. Have a good night! Take care. Peace, Love, and God Bless. This is 'thedoc' and I'm signing out. 1.
